Strong Ties

Christmas is much about parties, letting go and having fun. As with music, dance and movement is associated with high levels of Oxytocin which makes us feel joyous and smile. But like the icing on the cake the party is the expression of strong ties in a group and if they are not there these occasions can feel strained. For example, the office party is not always comfortable because the group itself may contain splits and stresses. Too much of a good thing and the wrong kind of spirit at Christmas perhaps!

Shared Fear and Worry

For some children too the parties are uncomfortable, perhaps your child is not being included in the peer group, or has been teased and then the Christmas party could be scary instead of safe. But if you know about it, you are winning; sharing their fears and worries is the most helpful thing you can do for your children. So concentrate of being with the people who make the child feel happy and safe and encourage a freedom and fun by letting go , and if you can dance and if you dare, offer the ninth gift of Christmas!
